Bubble Tea Counting and Number Activity For Preschoolers

Mulan loves bubble tea. So I combined it with counting and designed a simple activity for her. The idea is for her to put a number of “bubbles” in the bubble tea per the instruction on the sheet. She did so well and had so much fun doing it. I gave her a brief intro to the activity, then I asked her what the number is on the sheet. When we know how many bubbles to put in our tea, I then would hold her finger to “write” the numbers (both in Arabic and Chinese) on the paper. She preferred her left hand on the day that we did this activity 🙂

Mulan asked for this activity again several days later. I asked her to trace the characters this time, and she did it with her left hand again and she did a great job!

After writing/ tracing the numbers, she would then mark the bubbles in the drink with the dot markers.

We bought Mulan a Peppa Pig “iPad” to help her learn letters and numbers a few weeks ago. During the activity, whenever she struggled with identifying a number, I would ask her to find the number on her “iPad” to find out what the number is, and then she would mark the correct number of bubbles in the tea.

To add more fun to the process, I asked her what flavor she thinks the bubble teas were. You might be surprised by how much they know bubble teas 🙂

From the preparation standpoint, this activity only requires a printer and a set of dot-a-dot markers. You can also use playdoh/ pom pomp balls to create your own versions of this activity. Mulan likes markers so that was what we used.

From the clean up perspective, it can be very minimal, but it depends on whether your kiddo is an avid scissors-user. Mulan loves cutting paper. From catalogs to doctor’s visits summary sheet to flyers hung at our door, she cuts pretty much everything she can find. So, a bonus activity for Mulan was a bubble tea-cutting party. And as for Mama? You guessed right! Paper-picking and recycling activity lol.
