Mulan’s school is focusing on numbers 0-5 these days and they did a police-themed puzzle one week. I thought it would be a great idea to incorporate Chinese numbers as well so I made mine based on things of her interests. She is still very into dinosaurs and she has been obsessed with “going on a bear hunt” these days. Her school went on a “bear hunt” one day in music class and she has been talking about it ever since. Every teacher knows she is crazy about the bear hunt and she always asks her class teachers to play that game with her. We read the bear hunt book a lot both in English and Chinese and she does not seem to be tired of it lol.
I did this activity with her not too long after my Bubble Tea Counting and Number Activity. And I could not believe what I saw! She wanted to do the bear hunt puzzle first and it is a more difficult one since it only has Chinese numbers at the bottom. After she had cut up the strips, I messed up the ordering and asked her what number each strip was and she recognized all the Chinese characters! I was so impressed and shocked at the same time because she only learned about Chinese numbers in my bubble tea activity for the first time. And all we did was pointing the numbers to her, pronouncing the character, and tracing the character holding her fingers. Our little ones’ minds are so brilliant. It took so little time from me but the outcome brings me so much joy.
We were out of glue so we used tape instead. The outcome is the same and Mulan was happy that she got to use tape 🙂
She did the dinosaur one next and it was easy for her. I need to make more puzzles with 6-10 so that she can keep learning. She also got better with taping as she actually taped in between the strips, not just on the strip.
You might have noticed that Mulan is only using a “plastic” scissors. I got those on Amazon in a paper-cutting kit and I also have several other plastic ones. I am too scared to give her the metal ones especially with Mushu crawling around. I know she uses a metal scissor at school and those cut a lot better than the plastic ones. But this is what the kids will use for now till they are older.
If you would like to get these puzzles, simply put your email below and I will send them to you. Happy learning!
